Root canal therapy is used to treat an infected or abscessed tooth. It eliminates infection by removing the nerves and tissues inside of a tooth.

In pulp necrosis, the tissue deep inside of your tooth dies. It’s usually caused by an infection that develops from a cavity and is usually preventable with good dental care. Root canal therapy has a success rate of over 90%.Patients sometimes report that the root canaled tooth “feels” different, but the pain is gone. After the completion of the procedure the tooth will normally need a full coverage crown restoration in order to reinforce the strength of the tooth.

In complex cases, the patient may be referred to an endodontist for the treatment. Root canals are associated with pain but in many cases the recovery is quick and complete.
